These are the most asked questions from our new and experienced Helion Evaluators.


How can I find assignments in my country?

Simply go to the My Assignments section after you have logged in. You will be able to see the job board on the side bar.

If there are assignments available simply click on the job you would like to complete and press apply.VIDEO

What should I do if there are problems with my evaluation?

If there are any issues with the work you have picked up, you will need to contact your Community Manager straight away.

You can find who your Community Manager is under My Community after you logged in.

Why does Helion need a copy of my ID?

We require personal ID to verify the details you used when you registered are correct.

This is to avoid people signing up with details that are not theirs.

We will always take legal action against identity theft.

Why do I need to give Helion Research my personal details?

We ask your details for one main reason, we need to send the correct type of person to each Evaluation.

Our clients want to see how their staff respond to everyday customer, which means the evaluation needs to be completed by an Evaluator that fits this profile.

It would not make much sense if an Automotive Evaluation was completed by an Evaluator that had no driving experience.

We also ask for your location details so that we can offer you assignments in your area.

The more information that you give, the more likely you will be able to apply for more Evaluations. Video

When will I get paid?

We pay our Evaluators around the 20th of following month that you have completed your evaluation. So if you complete your evaluation on June the 4th you will be paid around the 20th of July.

From the 15th of the month you will see a pay statement in your log. Please verify this because these are the shops and amount which will be paid around the 20th in the month following your evaluation.

I apply and I do not hear anything, why?

Helion Research is busy with building an automated system to inform all evaluators if they have not received the evaluation that they have applied for BUT for now you will always hear from your community team ONLY if you have been chosen.

We will always try to spread work between new and experienced evaluators.

Please remember that if you live in a big City/Town you will not be the only Helion Evaluator that will apply for the same location.

Do not take it personally if you are not chosen.

Am I employed by Helion Research?

No.

Helion evaluators are independent contractors and are not employed by Helion.

You are responsible for all your own tax declarations. As a Helion evaluator, you will work for Helion as an independent contractor.

This means that you are not an employee of Helion, and will not be paid holiday pay, sick leave, superannuation, workers compensation, or other employee entitlements.

The rate of pay offered for the evaluation is the full payment that you will receive (if required to make a purchase you will be reimbursed for the cost of the purchase on top of your payment).

You are expected to cover all costs associated with you completing the mystery shopping assignments, including stationery, travel expenses, bank charges etc.

You can state this in your tax statement as expenses which you will not have to pay taxes on.

What can I do to make my application stand out?

These are only tips and will not confirm your application!

1.ID upload and verified –Helion understands that some of evaluators are worried about uploading this info. Please remember that it will be deleted completely from the Helion system once verified. If you upload an ID and it does not match your age, Helion will change your age in your profile, you will then be marked down unless you contact your community manager to explain it was a mistake. Adjusted or tampered ID will disqualify you from any other work with Helion. In the coming months only evaluators that have a verified ID can see and apply for jobs.

2.Photo upload – We want to see who we work with. The Helion team has photos online too and they are not all proud of them!

3.Profile 100% - As more projects come, they will be linked to your profile. If you do not match or you have not completed it you will not see it.

Can I claim for Expenses such as Petrol and Parking tickets?

The Expenses which will be reimbursed are clearly stated before you accept each assignment.

Usually it is not possible to claim back any additional expenses.

If it is offered it will be written in the evaluation details.

Please make sure you are familiar with the payment details before you accept a job offer.

Do evaluations have to be completed at a certain time on a certain date?

Each evaluation you pick up will have a set due date that you need to complete it by.

If for any reason you are unable to complete the evaluation in time you will need to contact your Community Manager ASAP.

Often there are certain times and dates you can not visit the store so it is always important to read your brief carefully.

What is a Helion Evaluator?

Mystery shopping is one of many tools that international brands use to measure their own level of service, to reward and/or improve there staff and in turn their customer service.

A Helion Evaluator is a Mystery shopper. A Helion Evaluator, acting as normal customer, performs specific tasks—such as purchasing a product, asking questions, registering complaints or behaving in a certain way – and then provide detailed reports or feedback about their experiences.

As a Helion Evaluator, you would have a large selection of different types of services to evaluate for a large number of clients, ranging from supermarkets to airlines by posing as a day to day customer.

Do I need to pay anything to become a Helion Evaluator?

Not at all!

We work together with you as a team so the only thing we ask is that you complete the work you accept to the best of your ability and on time and that is priceless!

You should never have to pay to Mystery Shop.

Never sign up with a company who will charge you to become a Mystery Shopper.

Why become a Helion Evaluator?

To put it into a few simple points, becoming a Helion Evaluator is great because:

  • You help leading brands to improve their service;
  • You enjoy new experiences;
  • You work when it best suits you;
  • You get paid to do all of the above.

What makes a good Helion Evaluator?

To put it into a few simple points, following requirements are needed to become a Helion Evaluator:

  • 18 years or older;
  • An eye for detail;
  • Able to work with deadlines;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Good written skills;
  • Access to a computer with internet access;
  • Contactable by phone;
  • And last but not least ... You need to enjoy yourself.

Is Mystery Shopping a full time job?

No, normally not, although we know of several people who almost work fulltime as a Mystery Shopper for several companies.

But you should consider it as a good and fun way of earning some extra money.

Can I Mystery Shop with Helion if I work for other Mystery Shopping companies?

When you sign up with Helion you sign a non-disclosure clause as part of the Terms and Agreements. This means that you are not allowed to share confidential information about your Helion assignments with other people.

However if you also want to work and gain experience with other companies you are entitled to do so. With Helion you work as an independent contractor not an employee.

How often will I be able to Mystery Shop?

This all depends on your location, your available time, your personal profile and time of year.

We do our utmost to share the workload amongst our best shoppers.

However new evaluators are needed all the time so we encourage you to apply for shops so we can start getting you working for Helion as soon as possible.

Which brands will I possibly evaluate?

Helion works for a huge number of different clients in various industries.

Hotels, restaurants, retail, automotive, supermarkets, fashion, public services etc.

We select candidates on profile, experience and commitment.

Therefore it's advised to fill out all the questions in your profile so we can offer as many assignments as possible that fits your profile.

What equipment is required?

You will be required to have access to a computer and the Internet as all your reports will need to be completed online.

If you do not have your own, please make sure you have access to internet in a library or internet cafe.

You will be asked to upload a proof of evaluation into your questionnaire, so a camera or cameraphone will be required to take photos of locations and/or receipts.

Do I need a specific browser or software to use the Helion website?

We advise using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Internet Explorer 10 and higher. (in that order) and Apple users, we love Safari!

 

Please note that some features of our website do not work very well in older versions of IE.

We advise you to get Acrobat Reader to read additional documentation. If you do not have this installed yet you can get it here.

Do I need previous experience as a Mystery Shopper?

No, previous experience is not necessary.

We offer free extensive online training which will broaden your understanding of the Mystery Shopping methodologies, and assist you in becoming a highly effective Helion Evaluator.

But if you are an experienced evaluator please tick the box in your profile we might have something special for you.

How long will the sign up process take?

The initial sign up will take around 10 minutes. During this time you will create your account and basic profile.

After this initial sign up you will be able to complete the rest of your profile.

What happens after I have completed the registration?

You will receive a confirmation email to activate your account.

Simply click on the link in the email and then log in with your email address and password you chose when you registered.

If you do not receive this email please check your Spam folder first and if you have still not received it please go to the Contact Page and  send us an email.

Why do I need to give Helion Research my personal details?

We ask your details for one main reason, we need to send the correct type of person to each Evaluation.

Our clients want to see how their staff respond to everyday customer, which means the evaluation needs to be completed by an Evaluator that fits this profile.

It would not make much sense if an Automotive Evaluation was completed by an Evaluator that had no driving experience.

We also ask for your location details so that we can offer you assignments in your area.

The more information that you give, the more likely you will be able to apply for more Evaluations. Video

What shall I do if I need to stop half way through the registration process?

If you are not gone for long and in a safe place simply leave your browser open.

If you can not carry on, you will need to stop and turn your internet access off. You will need to start again from the beginning. Next time make sure you have at least 10 minutes of spare time.

I do not feel comfortable answering some questions, do I have to answer them?

You will need to complete certain industry questions to complete certain Evaluations. E.g you will need to complete your Automotive profile to complete Automotive Evaluations.

If you do not feel comfortable answering certain questions, then simply leave them but you may not be able to complete the Evaluations in that industry.

We encourage you to fill out as many questions as possible. Besides Mystery shopping opportunities we occasionally have other assignments like online focus groups, exit interviews etc. The more details we have about you the better we can match Evaluations to your profile

Who should I contact if I have an issue or question during the times your offices are closed?

If you have questions or queries during these times please email them to us and we will reply on our return.

So please make sure you have read all your details of your Evaluation and asked your questions before these times.

How is my work evaluated?

Your work will be evaluated by our editors on the next points:    

  • That you have made sure you have submitted all of your details on time;      
  • That you have provided clear and detailed comments in your questionnaire;     
  • That you have spelled all comments correctly;
  • That there are no inconsistencies in your report;
  • That you have a clear proof of shop;     
  • And that you answer any editor comments in time and correctly.

Once your work has been evaluated by our editors and project managers, you will receive a score for each Helion evaluation.

The better the score the more likely you will be chosen for the next available assignment. So do your best ;)

How do clients use the information from the evaluations I complete?

Clients use the information you report to understand what their customers really experience.

They use them to recognise excellent performance or to identify training needs.

Sometimes they play a role in incentive and bonus programs.

I can not see where my missing % is?

When you complete your profile, your % will increase. If you miss a required question a red exclamation will show. Please first look through all the tabs to see if you have missed of any questions.

Can I invite my friends and family?

Yes please !

We encourage you to invite others to join the Helion Community.

Simply log into your profile and go to My Community. Here you will be able to invite all your friends and family.


Who will look at my profile details?

Your Community manager will be usually the only person to look at your profile.

It may well be that your Community manager could be off, then another member of the team will take over and will need to access your details to assign you work.

No details will ever be shared or sold onto a third party without your written approval.

What type of profile photo should I upload?

An up-to-date profile photo would be best.

If you have a full length photo that is also okay as long as it is clear and your face is visible.

Why does Helion need a copy of my ID?

We require personal ID to verify the details you used when you registered are correct.

This is to avoid people signing up with details that are not theirs.

We will always take legal action against identity theft.

What should I do If I can not upload my ID?


An upload is a requirement to complete any work with Helion. If you do not have a scanner you can always take a digital picture and upload it or go to your local internet cafe to scan it and upload it.

Should I inform my Community Manager if any of my details change?


Only contact your Community Manager if you need to change any locked fields like country of residence and email address.


How do I close my account?

Simply click on the Deactivate Account tab on the side tool bar.

You will be asked to give us your reason for closing your account and then you will be deactivated and all your information will never be  accessible again.

REMEMBER! Once you have closed your account, it can not be reopened again.

You will need to sign up again if you want to work for Helion again.

Can I delete all of my details from the Helion Database?

For security and legal reasons, Helion Research is required by Belgian law to keep all of your payment data on a secure server once you have deactivated your profile for a set period of time of 12 months.

If you would like to have an insight of which data is still stored after deactivation  on our servers please send us an email at hello@helionresearch.com.

We will ask several security questions before releasing the data to you.

Your details will never be shared or sold without your written approval.

Should I email my community manager if I have Pending apps?

You can but as they might be very busy and you may not get a reply straight away.

IF you have pending apps and you have not heard from Helion, we suggest a quick call BUT only do this if you are in real need and are going to that location the next day.

Can I complete evaluations outside of my local area or country?

Yes.

You can complete evaluations out of your own area in your country of residence.

If for any reason you would like to complete an evaluation in another country than the one you live in, you will need to contact your Community Manager before.

You will most of the time have to speak the local language fluently of the country you would like to complete evaluations.

Do I need to complete trainings if I have completed Mystery Evaluations for other companies before?

Yes.

Helion Evaluators are known as the best shoppers of the industry. We offer the best trainings and require the most from our shoppers.

We want you to be as qualified and as knowledgeable as possible.

We do things different, so to be sure you are on the same track as us, you will need to complete the Helion trainings.

It reassures us that you know as much as possible about what you may be required to do and how to handle situations that may arise as well as some background information on Market Research and mystery shopping in general.

The more you know, the more work will come your way.

Do I need to complete evaluations on the due date?


The due date is there to tell you when it needs to be completed by.

Unless stated, you can complete the evaluation anytime before or on the date as long as the questionnaire is completed by the due date.

Will I need to buy anything?

Some evaluations involve purchases.

This will be highlighted on the job details before you accept anything.

You will have to spend your own money for this purchase which we reimburse you after you have successfully completed your mission.

Please check the reimbursement amount prior to accepting assignments.

What is a self assign job?

If you fit the correct profile, you can "self assign" yourself the job.

This means as soon as you apply,  the evaluation will be yours and ready for you to complete without waiting for us to assign it to you.

I applied for an evaluation but have not got it, why?

Most of the time you will have lots of other Helion Evaluators applying for the same evaluation.

If you apply for a shop and you do not get it, this means that another Helion Evaluator;

  • might have applied before you
  • better fits the required profile
  • or has a better score.

Please apply for other assignments. If you feel you have applied many times and never got a shop, do not hesitate to contact us.

Can I do evaluations for a client that I work for personally?

No, unfortunately it would not give an objective report.

This also applies if anyone in your household works for that company.

How will I be offered evaluations or know if there are any evaluations in my area?

You will receive regularly an evaluation offer in your area/country by e-mail.

We would highly recommend though that you keep a regular eye on the job board. Here you will find all the available evaluations and here you can apply for any evaluations you would like to complete.

Do I have to accept every evaluation you offer me?

Not at all, only accept the evaluations you are sure you can complete correctly on time.

If you accept an evaluation and then feel you can not complete it please let your Community Manager know ASAP so we can assign it to another Helion Evaluator.

How long will each evaluation take?

Each evaluation will take a different amount of time.

We will try to estimate the time it should take and state it on the evaluation details before you accept the job.

Do I need to ask for a receipt?

If you have made a purchase for your evaluation, it is very important you collect a receipt.

The receipt is often your proof of evaluation.

Without the receipt we will be unable to reimburse any costs.

Do evaluations have to be completed at a certain time on a certain date?

When do I have to submit my results?

You will find that most of your evaluation will need to be entered into your questionnaire as soon as you leave the location to make sure that all the information you have retrieved is still fresh in your mind. At home or at any computer you can fill out the questionnaire online.

Some evaluations will require you to call the location again at a later date or wait for them to call you, this would mean that you would fill your questionnaire out to this point.

What should I do if there are problems with my evaluation?

If there are any issues with the work you have picked up, you will need to contact your Community Manager straight away.

You can find who your Community Manager is under My Community after you logged in.

Do I need to fill out my questionaire on Helion website?

Mostly yes,

There are sometimes cases where you will be able to use the offline system.

These are usually used for Hotel Visits or Mystery programs where you will visit many locations in one day, these however will still need to be uploaded to the Helion site at one point.

How far do I have to travel to do evaluations?

This varies from evaluation to evaluation, you will only need to travel as far as you are willing to.

Only accept the evaluations you can travel to.

You will see for each assignment if we offer travel expenses and the amount we reimburse.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of evaluations I must take each month?


No!

You can shop until you drop or just do the one for fun!

Do I need to complete my evaluations on my own?


Normally yes, but if you feel like you need to go with someone else or with children please see what one of us think, contact your Community Manager and get their advice.

Who sees my questionnaire after I have submitted it?

Our Quality Assurance Team reviews every evaluation to ensure completion and clarity.

If there are any questions, the evaluation will be returned to you for further information.

Once completed and reviewed by the team, the evaluation will be released to the client.

Will you provide me with feedback after I have submitted my questionnaire?


After every report has been reviewed by our editors, they will give you feedback on your work.

Can I have a friend do my scheduled evaluations for me?

No.

Evaluations cannot be transferred.

If you have a friend interested in complete evaluations with us, please invite them through the invite friends feature.

Many of our best shoppers have been referrals from friends.

How long do I need to keep paper work I have received whilst completing an evaluation?

You will need to keep all paper work required for your assignment for Helion for at least 3 months.

Specifics are written in the assignment guidelines which you will receive once assigned an evaluation.

The reason for this is that the client may come back with additional questions about the paperwork received during or after your evaluation.

What is the best way to prepare for an evaluation?

You will receive a detailed brief with each evaluation you are assigned.

It is very important you read through this and make sure you have understood it all.

You will then be tested on what you have read in the brief.

We recommend that you make yourself familiar with the companies and brands you are going to evaluate.

Always have a background story ready so you do not get caught out during your visit.

How do I complete a specific training to be able to apply for a job?

You will need to complete your consumer profile for a specific training.

So for example, if you drive and have completed your Automotive profile 100%. You will then have access to the Automotive training in My Consumer Trainings section on the left of your page.

I have failed a training, can I complete it again?


Unless stated otherwise, you will only have 2 tries at each test. But you can send us an email to activate your training again.


Will I be paid for the evaluations I complete and reimbursed for purchases I am required to make?

Yes, fully or partially.

When you see a job you would like to complete, you will be provided with some basic details of the visit.

Here it will state the fee for shop and how much you will be reimbursed if a purchase is necessary.

Along with the other visit information, you can make up your mind whether you would like to apply for the job.

Will I be paid the shop fee if I can not complete my evaluation, if the location is closed or does no longer exist ?

First of all you have to inform your community manager if this is the case.

We will evaluate on a case by case basis.

We suggest you make a picture of the location to prove it was closed or moved away.

We will then pay you max 50% of your shop fee.

How do I get paid?

Helion has the following options for you.

Regular Bank transfer: Shoppers in the European Union and the European Economic Area (*) can be paid through bank transfer.

Moneybookers: Shoppers outside the European Union are paid through MoneyBookers or Paypal

Paypal: Shoppers outside the European Union are paid through MoneyBookers or Paypal

Helion advises to use Moneybookers as the cheapest and fastest option for shoppers outside the European Union.

How much do I get paid?

You will be paid per evaluation, not an hourly rate.

The payment varies depending on the questionnaire, how much time you are required to spend in the store completing the evaluation, and whether you are required to make a purchase (which you will usually get to keep).

All fees will be shown on the evaluation details before you apply.

When will I get paid?

We pay our Evaluators around the 20th of following month that you have completed your evaluation. So if you complete your evaluation on June the 4th you will be paid around the 20th of July.

Do I get paid in Euros or my own currency?

We are based in Belgium so all payments will leave us in Euros.

This will then be exchanged by your bank.

Please always check before you do an assignment with your bank if they charge for this.


What Exchange rate does Helion use?

We will use the live exchange rate of the date we pay. See www.oanda.com

U kunt alleen deze shops voor die maand factureren voor exact de bedragen zoals vermeld (ex btw).

Vanaf Statement 23 zult u facturen moeten opladen naast uw statement.

We verzoeken u uw factuur tussen de 15de en de 20ste van de maand volgend op uw shop maand op te laden. Deze zullen dan (na de 20ste) betaald worden.

Op de factuur dienen de volgende zaken vermeld te worden.

I received a Helion payment through Moneybookers - now what?

Step 1: Register with the email address the payment was sent to. The payment you received will be automatically reflected in your account balance as soon as the account has been opened.


Step 2: You can either withdraw the money to your bank account or keep it in your Moneybookers account to send payments. You will see: there are a lot of things you can do with the money in your Moneybookers balance.

Regular international bank transfers to banks outside the European Union are subject to bank charges by each bank that is involved. Many times a shop fee of 15 euro will end up as 10 euro or less on your bank account.

That's why Helion chose Moneybookers as the safest, quickest and cheapest option for you !

When do I get paid?

We know that you would like to be paid as soon as possible.

We strive to keep payment times as short as possible.

Once your report has been checked, send to and approved by the client it will be marked for payment.

This will happen before the 15th of the month following your assignment.

Am I responsible for my own Taxes ?

Yes.

As you are an independent contractor you need to add the fees you receive from Helion into your own personal tax statement.

Most countries allow you to earn a specific amount each year tax free, please check with your tax office.

We will issue a statement each year with all the payments we have done to your account.

This document you can use to fill out your local tax forms.

Do I have a specific contact person or can anyone assist me?

We will be called your Community Manager. We will be responsible for allocating you work, training and coaching you.

We will also be there to help you with any questions or comments you will have. We look forward to getting to know you.

Am I employed by Helion Research?

No.

Helion evaluators are independent contractors and are not employed by Helion.

You are responsible for all your own tax declarations. As a Helion evaluator, you will work for Helion as an independent contractor.

This means that you are not an employee of Helion, and will not be paid holiday pay, sick leave, superannuation, workers compensation, or other employee entitlements.

The rate of pay offered for the evaluation is the full payment that you will receive (if required to make a purchase you will be reimbursed for the cost of the purchase on top of your payment).

You are expected to cover all costs associated with you completing the mystery shopping assignments, including stationery, travel expenses, bank charges etc.

You can state this in your tax statement as expenses which you will not have to pay taxes on.

What are the opening hours of Helion?

We are based in Belgium, so please see what the time difference is from your country.

We are here to help from 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Friday.

If you have questions or queries outside our opening times please email them to us and we will reply on our return.

Can I claim for Expenses such as Petrol and Parking tickets?

The Expenses which will be reimbursed are clearly stated before you accept each assignment.

Usually it is not possible to claim back any additional expenses.

If it is offered it will be written in the evaluation details.

Please make sure you are familiar with the payment details before you accept a job offer.

I have forgotten my password, what shall I do?


Simply click on the forgot password link on the home page and we will send you your password to your email address.

Do I have to give you my bank details as soon as I sign up?

No,

but please be sure you have entered them after your first visit, we understand you would like to get a feel for us and get to know us better before you enter your payment details.

After all we expect you would like to be paid for the work you complete!

I have forgotten my Email Address. What shall I do?

If you have forgotten your email address, you should call your community manager.

You will be asked to answer 5 security questions before we will give you your email address.

 

What is an IBAN number?

IBAN is an acronym, which stands for International Bank Account Number.

It is a standard way of uniquely identifying an account for the purpose of improving the efficiency and speed of cross border european union payments.

The length of IBAN can go upto 28 digits starting from 2 letter country code, specific to each country.

IBAN numbers are the new standard used by most international banks nowadays.

What is the difference between an IBAN and my account number?

Your account number and branch details are the primary way in which the bank identifies your account.

Your IBAN is used for receipt of cross border payments in your favour to identify your account in a uniform way.

It allows the sending bank to validate that the IBAN data provided is in the correct format.

Your bank account number is part of your IBAN number.

Where can I get my IBAN account number? Who issues it?

When you open an account with any bank in Europe, the bank is required to provide you with the IBAN account number along with your domestic account number. It is the legal requirement for all banks in Europe to issue your IBAN. You have to ASK your bank to give you one. Caution: DO NOT attempt to generate or compute IBAN by yourself or using any third party tools. Only your bank can provide you true and accurate IBAN. If you use incorrect IBAN then either payment will be rejected or you will be penalised extra for defaulted payments. The algorithm published, is only for your understanding and may not guarantee you true and accurate IBAN number. You should use your IBAN & BIC for invoicing and for instructing a foreign bank to make payments to your account. The IBAN & BIC should be used instead of account number and branch detail in cross border payments. Always quote BIC/SWIFT code of the institution along with IBAN.

What is a BIC number?

The Bank Identifier Code or BIC identifies the payment beneficiary’s bank — the bank that will receive the funds transfer. A BIC can be combined with the details provided by the IBAN to provide automated international funds transfers.
